BethanyKids at Kijabe Hospital (BKKH) started in 2004 with 32 beds. Just 6 months later the ward was full and we expanded into the Amazing Baby Center, increasing our capacity to 50 beds. A couple of years later we were again in a bed crunch, so we added our “CSR annex” of 13 beds. But the beds remain insufficient, and the children and their parents often spend many nights in the breezy and loud corridors. Moreover, our outpatient area at BKKH has often “burst at the seams”. Sometimes as many as 25 children and their families squeeze into one little bedroom-sized waiting area!  But a drawing does not make a building, and in Africa this is so true!
