Baby Erick
Written by Justus Marete
Our staff met Erick at the Embu mobile clinic. Baby Erick had surgery at the hospital three months ago. When he came to the mobile clinic, our social worker realized that his young parents couldn’t afford to bring him back to the hospital for follow-up surgery he needed urgently. Our clinic staff made room in the car and drove back to the hospital with the baby and his mom. Eric had the surgery immediately and is recovering well. Many families travel long distances to come to the mobile clinics. They would need to travel longer distances to come for review at the hospital, which poses a greater danger because of the many accidents that happen on Kenyan roads. Many also leave their homes at dawn in order to make the clinic appointments; having clinics nearer their homes helps with safety and security.
