About BethanyKids

Amputee_kidOur team of surgeons, based at BethanyKids at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya, are passionate about the children who come to them for care.  In 2010 more than 2,200 children came to us for life-changing surgery.

Teams of surgeons, nurses and therapists travel across Kenya to provide care for the children at our mobile clinics. We screen children and make referrals for any additional care they need. We also follow-up our post-operative patients who cannot travel back to Kijabe.

Africa suffers a paucity of surgeons, with a handful of doctors providing care for many millions of people, about half of those children. We have the only accredited training center in East Africa for pediatric surgeons, as well as offering training for nurses. Our desire is to establish BethanyKids sites across Africa to reach more children who need surgery and rehabilitation.

Our media team in Kenya develops educational videos, radio spots and print materials to educate Kenyans that disability is not inability. They have also developed training materials about maternal health issues. The team travels across Kenya raising public awareness about our work.
